Improving Your Game

Thinking About Golf Terms
"When striking your golf ball be sure to use all of your power."

by Mike Malarkey, PGA Golf Instructor The Golf Academy of Tennessee -- Dead Horse Lake Golf Course

Perhaps the founding fathers of our great game of golf had a message when they blessed us with such terms as Swing, Stroke and Strokes.
What does a gate do? It Swings from its center post. What do we do with a hammer? We hit the nail using a hit primarily with our hand and arm. When striking your golf ball be sure to use all of your power. This means not only your hands and arms, but your body or center as well. Then you will be executing a golf Swing with your body as the center.
Oh! About Stroke and Strokes? How do we keep score in golf? Par is around 72 Strokes. What does an artist do with a brush? Makes brush Strokes, of course. How tightly or lightly does the artist hold this brush? Rather lightly, of course. So, use all of your power including your body or centerf or your golf Swing. Then you will not be so tempted to hold the club too tightly and slug at the ball with your hands -- far from the idea of executing a Stroke.
See a professional instructor to learn how to better use all of your power in the form of a golf Swing from the body or center rather than too much hit with the hands.
